Overview

Parental leave, maternity leave, long-term illness or a sabbatical: the absence is often foreseeable, yet the gap in accounting is still significant. We take on the role fully and with accountability, keep day-to-day business stable, support the closings and ensure a clean handback when the post holder returns.

Situations

Typical situations for interim leave cover

Your head of accounting is going on maternity and parental leave, and nobody internally can lead the team and support the closings and the coordination with the auditors. A fixed-term hire cannot be found that quickly.

A key person in payables, receivables or the general ledger is off on long-term sick leave, and backlogs are building up. Or a sabbatical is coming up, and the month-end close must not suffer.

What all these cases have in common: the role does not need reinventing, it needs to be carried on reliably and handed back without friction.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions: Accounting Leave Cover

When should parental leave cover in accounting be planned?

As early as possible, ideally as soon as the period is foreseeable. That leaves room for a structured handover by the post holder: ongoing topics, the closing calendar, key contacts and particularities. If someone is absent unexpectedly, for example through illness, we take over without a handover and gain an overview directly from documents, accounts and systems.

Why interim cover rather than a fixed-term hire?

Filling a fixed-term position takes time, and experienced leaders rarely look for fixed-term roles. Interim cover is available at short notice, brings leadership experience and is productive quickly. It is designed for handover from the outset. The two can also be combined, for example with interim support until a fixed-term hire is up to speed.

Does the cover also lead the accounting team?

Yes, if the role requires it. Loretta Schneiders leads teams of up to 20 people, functionally and with line responsibility, and deputised for the head of accounting at Live Nation on cross-functional topics and escalations. What interim leadership of an accounting function looks like is described under interim head of accounting.

How does the handback after parental leave work?

Planned and documented. Before the return, we summarise the current status: ongoing closings, open points, changes to processes or systems and important agreements with auditors or the group. If you wish, there can be an overlap period. The aim is for the returning post holder to take the role back without friction.

Does leave cover in accounting also work remotely?

In many cases, yes. Loretta Schneiders works from Lanzarote for companies across the DACH region – on site, hybrid or remote, most recently with around 25% of her time on site. For closing dates, audits or team meetings she comes to the company. More on this model under interim finance remote for DACH.
