Overview

When sustainability is meant to be more than a report, we take on responsibility inside the company. We embed impact, make it measurable and keep it economically sound.

Purpose and profit are no contradiction when both are led operationally.

Situations

Typical situations for an impact mandate

Impact and sustainability rarely fail because of intent, but because of execution: someone is missing who embeds impact in day-to-day operations while keeping an eye on profitability.

Typical triggers: a business model that should become more sustainable without losing margin; investor or customer requirements for credible impact metrics; or an impact promise that so far is more communication than reality.

We come from entrepreneurial practice: through Schneiders Ventures we are invested in impact startups, and with CANARYmedic we built a business model ourselves that combines medical care with social impact.

What we take on in impact mandates

01

Defining impact goals that fit the business model rather than sitting beside it.

02

Making impact measurable: metrics that are credible and stand up to investors.

03

Embedding sustainability in operational processes instead of parking it in a staff function.

04

Securing profitability: impact the company can carry rather than be burdened by.

05

Communicating with investors, customers and partners based on real figures.

06

Building structures that carry impact on after the mandate.

Embed impact. Deliver numbers. Stay credible.

Jens Schneiders combines operational leadership with entrepreneurial investment in impact business models. He knows both sides: the ambition to achieve impact and the necessity that a business model sustains itself.

Operational depth is no compromise here, it is his advantage: he knows the reality inside the company from his own experience and embeds impact where it actually arises, instead of describing it in a report.

The benchmark is simple: impact that stands up to scrutiny from investors, customers and your own numbers. Everything else is communication.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions: Impact & Sustainability

How do you make impact measurable without sliding into greenwashing?

With impact goals that fit the business model and KPIs that are robust and stand up to scrutiny by investors, customers and your own accounts. We anchor measurement in operational processes, not in a separate staff unit, and communicate impact only on the basis of real figures. Everything else is just communication.

Does sustainability necessarily cost margin?

No, not if impact and profitability are managed together. The goal is impact that supports the company rather than burdening it: sustainability is built into the offering, processes and cost structure in a way that pays off. This guiding principle, Purpose × People × Planet × Profit, also shapes our own family office, Schneiders Ventures.

Does an impact mandate also cover sustainability reporting?

We create the operational basis for it: defined goals, robust KPIs, clean data flows and clear responsibilities in day-to-day business. Which reporting obligations apply to your company and how they are to be met legally is assessed by specialised advisers and auditors. This way, the report is based on real implementation rather than sustainability rhetoric.

What experience do you have with impact business models?

Entrepreneurial experience: with CANARYmedic we built a telemedicine platform in the Canary Islands that integrates donation mechanisms for social health projects. In addition, there are two stakes in tourism impact start-ups, the founding of BEEMING GROUP with a focus on impact investing and Jens Schneiders’ mandate as interim COSO at the sustainability consultancy 7StepsSolution, described in the 7StepsSolution case study.

When is an interim mandate for impact and sustainability worthwhile?

There are three typical situations: the business model is to become more sustainable without losing margin; investors or customers demand robust impact KPIs; or an impact promise has so far been more communication than reality. There is particular hands-on experience in tourism, for example the repositioning of erlebe-fernreisen with "Impact Travel"; see Interim Management for Tourism.
