Overview

At WBS Group, Jens Schneiders led a corporate venture as Head of Innovative Training Concepts. An acquired proof of concept became an independent unit that was on the market after six months – connected to the group and at the same time independently steerable.

Situation

Situation

There was a proof of concept, but no organisation that could turn it into a marketable offering. Structure, platform, brand and team had to be built and cleanly integrated into the existing group.

Approach

Approach

01

Building the organisation

Created roles, processes and steering for an independent unit within the group – effectively a carve-in with its own structure and business model.

02

Developing the platform

Built an app and cloud platform as the technical basis of the offering.

03

Brand and team

Developed the brand and built and led the core team.

04

Market entry

Delivered market entry within six months.

Result

Result and handover

An integrated, scalable venture: independently steerable, cleanly connected to the group and with a team that carries the further build-up.

What others can take away

Corporate ventures rarely fail because of the idea, but because of how they are connected. Thinking structure, processes, systems and people together from day one gets you to market faster – and the same applies to carve-outs and integrations.

Reference

“Mr Schneiders demonstrated an exceptional aptitude for strategic, structural and organisational development and used his broad entrepreneurial experience […] for a rapid market entry just six months after the acquisition.”
