English-speaking interim accountant for your German entity

Your German subsidiary needs an accounting lead who speaks German with the local tax adviser and auditors and English with group finance. Loretta Schneiders does both.

Overview

For group CFOs and controllers, the German entity can feel like a black box: HGB locally, IFRS for the group, German-language documents and processes that are hard to follow from headquarters. Loretta Schneiders works in English with group finance, shared service centres and hubs, and in German with the local team, tax adviser and auditors – so that the numbers, and the context behind them, reach HQ on time.

Situations

Typical situations for international groups

The finance lead of your German subsidiary leaves or goes on leave, and nobody in group finance can support the German closing on the ground, deal with the local auditor and report back in English.

Accounting for your German entities is moving to a shared service centre or global business centre abroad. Processes need to be documented, handed over and stabilised, while the local books still meet German requirements.

Or the group reporting package keeps arriving late, needs repeated explanations, and HQ lacks a reliable counterpart in Germany.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions: English-Speaking Interim Accountant

Can an interim accountant cover both HGB and IFRS?

Yes. Many German subsidiaries keep their statutory books under HGB (German GAAP) and report to the group under IFRS. Loretta Schneiders has contributed to monthly and annual closings under both frameworks and completed further training in HGB and IFRS accounting. Differences are documented so that group finance can follow the reconciliation. More on closing support under financial statements & reporting.

Does our German entity really need someone who speaks German?

In practice, usually yes. Invoices, contracts, correspondence with the tax adviser, auditor queries and much of the local documentation are in German, and so is the local team. At the same time, group finance needs explanations in English. Loretta Schneiders works in German (C2) and English (C1) and acts as the bridge, so that nothing gets lost between the entity and headquarters.

How do you work with our shared service centre or hub?

As the counterpart on the German side: clarifying which tasks sit locally and which with the centre, documenting processes in English, answering queries and making sure German requirements are met. At Element Materials Technology, Loretta Schneiders prepared and supported the transition of accounts payable for five German sites to the Global Business Center in Edinburgh. More in the Element case study.

Is a remote assignment possible when HQ is outside Germany?

Yes. Loretta Schneiders is based on Lanzarote and works for entities across the DACH region on site, hybrid or remote; in her most recent mandate, around 25% of her time was on site. For closings, audits and key meetings she is there in person where it matters. Reporting lines to a foreign HQ and the rhythm of check-ins are agreed at the start.

How quickly can you start, and what does it cost?

A short-notice start is possible; the exact date depends on current mandate commitments. Fees depend on the role, scope, intensity and duration of the assignment, and you receive a concrete proposal after an initial conversation. Simply describe your situation, in English or German, via the contact form.
